Three train-on players have arrived for preseason with the intention of filling the final two spots on Fremantle’s roster.

A couple of spots became available earlier this week when the AFL granted Josh Corbett (hip) and Sebit Kuek (knee and shoulder) a spot on the Club’s long-term injury list while they recover from surgery.

Beattie, 20, is a small forward who moved to the SANFL from the Murray Bushrangers in an attempt to play in the AFL. He is currently waiting for his chance.

The deadline for the Supplemental Selection Period is February 15.

It is also possible to hold open list spots for the mid-season draft in 2024.

The Coaching Department is fully operational.

The appointment of a new Development Coach confirms Fremantle’s AFL coaching staff for the 2024 season.

Andrew Sturgess’s appointment as Development Coach confirms Fremantle’s AFL coaching staff for the 2024 season.

Sturgess is a highly qualified coach from Victoria. She most recently worked with Vic Metro’s U18 and U16 talent squads and the Calder Cannons in the Coates Talent League, helping to shape future AFL players. He was Senior Coach at Coburg in the VFL before this.

“After a meticulous procedure, we are truly thrilled to have Andrew Sturgess join the Freo family,” stated Joe Brierty, Executive General Manager of Football.

“He is a people-oriented person who is motivated to help players realize their greatest potential. He will play a significant role in our coaching team and possesses a true growth mindset.

Sturgess will move to Perth prior to Christmas, bringing his family along for the New Year’s festivities. Adam Read left the position earlier this month when he was named Senior Coach of Peel Thunder, Fremantle’s WAFL-aligned team.

The men’s coaching staff is led by Justin Longmuir, with Matthew Boyd in defense, Joel Corey in midfield, and Jaymie Graham in forwards.

As Development Coaches, Brady Grey and Tendai Mzungu will continue to collaborate closely with Sturgess. The coaching staff for 2024 is completed by Bob Murphy, Head of Leadership, and Stoppages and Opposition Coach Harry Garland.

“We’ve now been able to formalize the structure of our coaching department for 2024 with Andrew’s appointment,” Brierty stated.

With Justin (Longmuir) in charge of our panel, we are certain that every coach can provide the necessary game plan and strategy in addition to inspiring our players to give their best effort.

“This coaching staff has a great deal of experience, and I’m excited to watch them collaborate closely with our players to achieve the success that our club is so determined to attain.

“We are excited to have Andrew, his wife Bianca, and their sons, Leo and Archer, join the Freo family in the coming month.”
