Drue Tranquill leaves the Packers game due to an apparent injury

Two players were already out for the Kansas City Chiefs going into their Week 13 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, and another appeared to be hurt early on. Linebacker Drue Tranquill left Kansas City’s Sunday Night Football game after a first-and-10 play from the Green Bay 34-yard line. AJ Dillon, the running back, struck Tranquill in the head/shoulder region with his knee at the conclusion of a rushing attempt. Tranquill stayed on the field as the commercial break began, eventually making his way to the sidelines with assistance from the Chiefs’ training staff.

Tranquill was evaluated in the on-site medical tent, then returned to the locker room for additional testing. Jack Cochrane took Tranquill’s place as the team’s MIKE linebacker. The Chiefs have stated that Tranquill is undergoing evaluation for a concussion.

This season, Tranquill—who signed with Kansas City in the offseason—has proven to be an even more valuable asset than the team had anticipated. Nick Bolton has played in just four games due to a high ankle sprain and a dislocated wrist, so Tranquill has taken over as the team’s starting linebacker. Consequently, the veteran player in his fifth year has played more than 500 defensive snaps this season (74% of those that were available). The Chiefs’ percentages were 99, 95, 98, and 100 in their last four games.

As we approached Week 13, Tranquill was contributing to the Kansas City defense in a variety of ways. Having accumulated 70 tackles (six of which were for loss), 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception, his versatility makes him a standout player on that attack. In addition, Tranquill easily leads the team in Pro Football Focus “stops” made. Steve Spagnuolo, the defensive coordinator for the Chiefs, talked earlier this week about the value Tranquill has added to the team since Bolton has been out. What he said was as follows:

“I think the whole translation gets lost in this: we lost a really good football player in Nick Bolton for a number of games here, but as I’ve said before, we slid Drue in there and haven’t really skipped a beat in terms of having to cut things back. You guys know that the chemistry and communication between the linebackers and back end need to be like this (hands together motion). Though occasionally that does happen, we didn’t lose that at all.”

In Week 13, the Patriots switched quarterbacks, but in a 6-0 loss at home against the Chargers, Bailey Zappe may have actually caused the team to regress. Now that they are 2-10, it appears that this may be Bill Belichick’s final season with the team he built to historically high standards.

Despite being outplayed frequently, the Steelers have been winning despite the odds being against them all season. However, in Week 13, against the Cardinals, an unlikely opponent, the tide turned and Kenny Pickett had to leave the game due to an ankle injury. Pittsburgh, with a 7-5 record, is still very much in the running for the AFC Wild Card, despite its own offensive

The Eagles will take a little vacation this week after playing the Chiefs, Bills, and 49ers in a demanding 20-day stretch, but this game could end up being just as difficult as any of the previous three. Philadelphia, which was humiliated at home by the Niners 42-19 in Week 13, struggled at home against Dallas before managing a 28-23 victory in Week 9. The Cowboys are still stigmatized for not having defeated a top team this season, but Dallas will be aiming for the NFC East title heading into this encounter. A victory by Mike McCarthy’s team in a stadium where they’re already 6-0 straight up and 5-1 ATS

The 49ers would be hard-pressed to enter this matchup with more confidence or momentum given their 42-19 thrashing of the defending NFC champion Eagles on the same field where Philadelphia put an end to San Francisco’s 2022 season. The Seahawks are continuing a brutal stretch run schedule with this game, which follows their first meeting with San Fran in Week 12 and a Week 13 tussle with the Cowboys, both losses.

After the heartbreaking loss last week, the Bills took a much-needed break in Week 13, a hallmark of the Sean McDermott era. With a current record of 6-6, Buffalo has increased the risk to their postseason hopes.

The Chiefs’ postseason standing and the odds will be updated after Sunday night football.

In the upcoming days, the Niners should be cautious about reading too many press clippings about themselves, but they are understandably big home favorites against a team that is 3-2 ATS this season.

The Packers, who are leading the NFC Wild Card race, faced the Chiefs on Sunday night as they embarked on an unexpected two-game winning streak.

In spite of their infrequent back-to-back victories, the Giants will have a significant rest advantage going into this game because of their Week 13 bye. New York is a distinct home underdog going into Green Bay’s Week 13 game.
