What Effect Did Trevor Lawrence’s Injury Have on the Browns’ and Jaguars’ Spread?

The line for the Browns’ home game against the Jaguars has now changed as a result of the fallout from Trevor Lawrence’s injury on MNF.
There’s nothing that can influence a spread quite like a quarterback injury. As the Browns prepare to host the Jaguars in Week 14, that is happening in real time.

Before Jacksonville’s game against Cleveland, they were originally pegged at -3.5. The Browns are now the favorites after Trevor Lawrence left Monday’s 34-31 overtime loss to the Bengals due to a high ankle sprain, according to the official diagnosis.

The SI Sportsbook indicates that Cleveland is now favored by the same 3.5 points that Jacksonville was at first.

Lawrence tried to leave the field after getting hurt, but he collapsed to his knees and pummeled the ground out of frustration. Eventually, he would drop his helmet and carefully leave the room, using the trainers that were tucked under each arm. The 24-year-old’s response sparked a lot of conjecture that the injury might end the season.

Although Lawrence won’t require surgery and won’t be out for the season, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson was unable to provide a firm timeline for when the Clemson product would be able to play against the Browns.

In Lawrence’s absence, Jacksonville would start C.J. Beathard at center. On Monday night, the Iowa product bravely took over for Lawrence, completing nine out of ten passes for 63 yards.

Leading wideout Christian Kirk also left Monday’s game injured, in addition to Lawrence. His condition is more severe because he won’t be able to play against Cleveland and will require surgery to repair a core muscle injury.

The Browns have not yet selected a starting quarterback for Week 14 while Jacksonville struggles with quarterback uncertainty. In Sunday’s 36-20 loss to the Rams, Joe Flacco, an experienced quarterback, started for Cleveland and completed 254 yards and two touchdown passes.

Flacco completed passes to nine distinct targets while doing an outstanding job of spreading the ball around. The 16-year veteran is one of the Browns’ options this weekend, but if rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson passes the league’s concussion protocol, he may take back the starting position.

In any case, Cleveland now has a chance to steal a game against one of the best teams in the AFC since they are without Kirk and there’s a good chance Lawrence won’t be available on Sunday.
