The 2024 AFL season’s best 23 players for each team: Adelaide Power Port

Following a strong home and away campaign, Port Adelaide struggled in the 2023 finals series. Nevertheless, it is expected that they will contend for the premiership once more the following year.

After a successful season for the Power, 2024 will be a year of hope at Alberton. The club’s young midfield core will continue to develop while the backline will be strengthened in the off-season.

The notable presence of tall forwards in Ken Hinkley’s lineup will also help the front three, especially with rising attacker Mitch Georgiades hoping to make a comeback from an ACL injury that derailed his 2023 campaign.

Through the trade period, Port Adelaide increased their roster by two rucks, both of whom are expected to contend for the starting position.

Taking into account a number of off-season adjustments, this is the possible lineup for Port Adelaide in 2024.

Adelaide, Brisbane, Carleton, Collingwood, Espendale, FREMANTLE, GEELONG, GOLD COAST, GWS, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne are the 23 best cities.

In the Power’s rearguard, trade acquisitions Esava Ratugolea and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher are expected to start right away. Tom Jonas’ retirement and the unpredictability surrounding Trent McKenzie and Tom Clurey will push the new talls to the front of the selection queue alongside Aliir Aliir.

The trio will split the responsibility of opposing the top key forwards in the league, which has been a club weakness during the South Australians’ impressive four-year tenure.

While Kyle Marshall and Tom McCallum are developing into tall defenders, Trent McKenzie and Tom Clurey offer some experience as reinforcements.

The Power also have plenty of medium- and smaller-sized backs, such as All-Australian Dan Houston, who will share the workload with the midfield group and provide plenty of attacking flair from the back line.

In addition to being a competent lockdown and intercept option that Hinkley can call upon, darting defender Miles Bergman expanded his skill set in 2023. Ryan Burton, Kane Farrell, and Lachie Jones can also provide some run out of the backline.

In his two years at Alberton, Jase Buergoyn has shown flashes, and other potential utility players who will see some time at half-back include Dylan Williams and Darcy Byrne-Jones.
