Max Stassi was acquired by the Atlanta Braves less than twenty-four hours after he was acquired by the Angels, and the Braves quickly traded him to the White Sox.

The Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Angels completed a trade on Friday that sent left-handed pitcher Tyler Thomas and former first-round pick Evan White to Los Angeles in exchange for catcher Max Stassi and infielder David Fletcher.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Braves have now shipped Stassi to the Chicago White Sox, less than a day later:

It didn’t take long for Atlanta to trade catcher Max Stassi to the Chicago White Sox for an unnamed player just 24 hours later.

Minutes later, David O’Brien of the Athletic confirmed the trade:

“The #Braves traded C Max Stassi as part of their four-player trade with the Angels on Friday, as anticipated but even quicker than anticipated. They shipped Stassi to the White Sox on Saturday in exchange for an unnamed player, along with money to pay off a portion of his $7.5 million debt.

The key component of the deal for Atlanta appears to be Fletcher, a seasoned utility player with 534 career MLB games played and a.277 batting average. The Braves didn’t need Stassi on the roster because they already had two All-Star catchers in Travis d’Arnaud and Sean Murphy.

In December, fans witnessed Anthopoulos employ this astute tactic when he traded starting player Marco Gonzales just two days after he was added to the team. First baseman Evan White, who was acquired by the Seattle Mariners in the same trade, was recently treated similarly by him. Only Jarred Kelenic was retained by Atlanta, most likely to take Eddie Rosario’s place in left field.

As usual, the executive is obviously going all out in this offseason.
