The school won 13 national titles and was a dominant force in football during the first 80 years of the program’s existence. But since 1988, Notre Dame has failed to win a championship. They have won double digits in 13 of those seasons, last participated in a championship game in 2013, and have made two trips to the college football playoffs.

“Because even in a 12-team playoff, it won’t work if the same strategy is used, which includes defense, running the ball, and mediocre quarterback play.”

With Wake Forest transfer Sam Hartman, the Notre Dame football team had high expectations for 2023. However, despite winning their first four games under the new quarterback, they finished the season 5-3 and suffered crushing defeats to Ohio State, Louisiana, and Clemson.
