According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday, Justin Herbert is not anticipated to play when the Los Angeles Chargers take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday. Rather, he is apparently going to have surgery.
The Chargers head coach Brandon Staley informed reporters that the fourth-year quarterback is undergoing testing after breaking the index finger on his throwing hand. In his NFL career, Herbert has made sixty-two starts without missing a game and holds the second-longest active streak among quarterbacks. The only quarterback with more playing time is Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, who has started 84 straight games.
Herbert has suffered from a fractured finger twice this year. When he attempted to make a tackle after an interception in Week 4 against the Raiders, he broke his left middle finger.
