The biggest challenge facing rookie quarterback Arch Manning will be at Texas Longhorns, according to a CFB insider.
Transfer portal rumors have Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning mentioned since it was revealed Quinn Ewers will return in 2024. Although Manning’s chances of landing a starting position in Texas are not good, he is expected to stay.
This past week, Maalik Murphy—who has supported Ewers this season—announced that he was going through the transfer portal. Since Texas was not providing him with the opportunity to begin in 2024, it became necessary for him to transfer to a different Power 5 university. Many predicted that Manning would follow the same course.
Manning, who is regarded as the top recruit in the 2023 class by 247 Sports, redshirted at Texas during his first year. Manning only saw action in the game against Texas Tech, coming in behind Ewers and Murphy as the third-string quarterback. Manning won’t seem to be forced to leave the team even though Ewers’ return the following season prevents him from moving up to the starting position.
In the midst of several quarterbacks accessing the transfer portal, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic discussed Peyton Manning’s future in Texas during his appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.
“From what I’ve heard, he’s anticipated to stay for an additional year.From what I’ve heard, Arch Manning is well-liked by the staff; however, his consistency has been inconsistent lately. He is a young quarterback, though.
Even though Manning was a highly anticipated recruit, he wasn’t the best player in high school. It implied that he would face a more challenging learning curve at the Division I level and that he would perform inconsistently during practice when given repetitions.

Because of this, the coaching staff wanted Ewers back as the starting quarterback in 2024, which is why the Longhorns kept him behind Murphy on the depth chart this past season. As of right now, Manning seems destined to be the Longhorns’ backup quarterback come fall, and in 2025, he would be Ewers’ obvious successor.
