Sunday Offering: Oklahoma Adds Through High School Recruiting and Transfer Portal

Brent Venables and his staff are still on the recruiting trail as the current Oklahoma squad gets ready to play Arizona in the Alamo Bowl later this month. The Sooners have gotten two commitments in the past seven days and are in the running for another outstanding high school recruit. Two local high school football players received two preferred walk-on offers from OU as well. Oklahoma’s current squad may not be playing, but the Sooners’ staff has been hard at work in the background as they pursue new recruits.

Franklin averaged 6.2 yards per carry in 2023 while rushing for 1,386 yards and 11 touchdowns. Against Missouri State in September, the Little Rock, Arkansas, product recorded a season-high 259 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

At five feet ten inches and two hundred pounds, Franklin will have the opportunity to start seeing action in the OU backfield straight away because Marcus Major, Daylan Smothers, and Tawee Walker have all declared their intent to use the transfer portal. Franklin will compete with 2023 regular season MVP Gavin Sawchuk for the position of starting tailback for the Sooners. Sawchuk finished with 610 yards and eight touchdowns. OU made an offer to former Oregon State defensive back Jermod McCoy in addition to Franklin.

The 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback recorded 31 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass breakups in his rookie campaign. McCoy has received offers from Tennessee, Florida, USC, and other schools since he registered on the transfer portal. ELEVATION SCHOOL HIRING Interior offensive lineman Eddy Pierre-Louis, a 4-star recruit, committed to Oklahoma on Friday afternoon.

Based in Tampa Catholic (FL), the same high school as Lewis Carter, the rookie linebacker for the Sooners, Pierre-Louis is ranked No. 1 among interior offensive linemen in the country and No. 28 among players by Rivals. The four-star prospect passed up Texas A&M, UCF, Miami, and Oregon to enroll at OU. In addition to Isaiah Autry, Eugene Brooks, Joshua Aisosa, and Daniel Akinkunmi, Pierre-Louis is Bill Bedenbaugh’s fifth offensive line commitment for the 2024 class. Julian Marks, a 4-star defensive lineman for 2025, released his list earlier this week, and the Sooners were ranked in the top 11.

Along with Michigan, Kansas, Alabama, USC, Oregon, Kansas State, Missouri, Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Miami, the 6-foot-7, 275-pound defender was a member of OU. According to On3, Marks is ranked as the 108th overall player and the 12th defensive lineman in the 2025 class. Two outstanding in-state prospects received two preferred walk-on offers from Oklahoma as well.

Zavier Freeman, an offensive and defensive lineman for Heritage Hall (OK), revealed on social media on Tuesday that he had been given a PWO by the Sooners. Freeman is the son of former OU tight end Jason Freeman and the younger brother of Sooners wide receiver Gavin Freeman. At six feet one inch and 250 pounds, Zavier would probably play defensive line if he were to follow his older brother to Norman.

On social media the day before Freeman made his offer public, offensive lineman Evan McClure of Bixby, Oklahoma, disclosed that he had also received a PWO from the Sooners. McClure, who is listed as 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, has received offers for Division I scholarships from South Dakota, Akron, and the Air Force.
