Bristol Rovers will move in the loan market early in January as Gas looks for Crystal Palace talent.

Bristol Rovers are set to lose Lamare Bogarde, Bristol Live understands, with parent club Aston Villa expected to recall the 19-year-old midfielder. However, the subsequent vacant loan spot could be filled this month.

As first reported by Football Insider, Bogarde is heading back to Villa Park after an unsuccessful second stint at the Mem having failed to make an impression on new manager Matt Taylor. The Dutchman made a cameo in the 41-year-old’s first game in charge, a 2-1 defeat at Crawley Town in the EFL Trophy, but hasn’t played a minute since, failing to make four of the subsequent seven squads.

However, it has also been reported that the plan was always for Villa to recall the teenager in January to then send him out to a Championship club for the second half of the campaign to test himself at a higher level.

There was plenty of excitement following Bogarde’s return after impressing on loan in BS7 in the second half of last season and it is believed that Rovers did well to seal a second loan deal for the midfielder with Championship clubs circling back in the summer. Interestingly, one of them is understood to be Rotherham United who was then managed by Taylor, although the Netherlands U20 international’s next destination is currently unknown.

After making 18 appearances this season, 10 of which starts, there is no doubt that the midfielder is filled to the brim with potential but it just quite hasn’t worked out with changes in the dugout, system alterations as well as other midfielders coming into serious form.

However, Bogarde’s recall does offer Rovers the opportunity to take a new loanee on this window with four of their five available loan spaces filled. Early signs suggest that 20-year-old Crystal Palace defender Tayo Adaramola is a name of interest to the Gas.

First reported by the South London Press, the left-back, who can also play wing-back, is someone Rovers are keen on with the Republic of Ireland U21 international allowed to go out on loan this month to further his development.

Adaramola has made two first-team appearances for the Premier League outfit, both of which in the FA Cup during the 2021/22 season and was on the bench for Palace’s league matches against Manchester City and Chelsea earlier this term.

The 20-year-old did join eventual Championship play-off finalists Coventry City on loan last season but only made one appearance against Bristol City in the League Cup before being sent back to Selhurst Park that September.

When asked about additions after Rovers’ 3-2 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers on New Year’s Day, Taylor revealed that the Gas are planning to execute plans “in the next week or so.”

Another left-back would certainly be welcome in the Rovers manager’s squad with veteran George Friend expected to remain side lined for the foreseeable future with a long-term injury while there is still no exact return date set for Lewis Gordon. Chelsea loanee Harvey Vale has impressed at both left-back and, more recently, left-wing-back but there’s currently very little competition on that left-flank.
