The Broncos have one more objective: defeating the Raiders in the season finale.

The Denver Broncos didn’t make the playoffs this season which comes as a disappointment to many. Even so, they are 8-8 heading into their season finale against the Las Vegas Raiders. A win would secure the franchise’s first winning season since 2016. Furthermore, a victory would give them their first win against the Raiders since 2019.

This game might not mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but for the players and coaches in that locker room ending the season on a high note is certainly a priority. There aren’t many players on the roster who have experienced a win against their biggest rival since coming into the league. A win against the Raiders would help set the tone entering the offseason and be a step toward fostering the winning culture that Sean Payton has spoken about repeatedly.

“I think it’s extremely important because it’s our last opportunity with this team, and getting to that ninth win means something,” stated Payton after their victory against the Los Angeles Chargers.

I agree whole-heartedly with Coach Payton. While a loss and some favorable outcomes in other games could land the Broncos a higher draft selection, I want to see them take care of business and come out with a big win on the road to end the season. It makes no sense to lament early season losses and what could have been. The past is already etched in stone. There is no changing that.

All that matters is beating the Raiders this Sunday and ending the season on a high note. It’s an opportunity for every player to show what they can bring to the table for the 2024 season. It’s a chance at working towards something better. The Broncos might have a way to go before they are a championship caliber squad, but defeating the Raiders on the road will give them some much needed confidence heading into an offseason that will certainly be full of activity—and one filled with a lot of change.

Nobody in this room wants to witness the Broncos lose to their bitter rival. That was 1,465 days ago, and it has already passed. I’m thrilled to see the Broncos snap their multi-year losing streak against the Raiders and end the season with a victory. Who’s with me?
