Jahdae Barron, a defensive back, declares his return to Texas.

The Texas Longhorns received major news on Saturday when defensive star Jahdae Barron declared his return to the Forty Acres for one more season of eligibility, while they are still loading up for another shot at the College Football Playoff.

The versatile defender, who filled in to hold down the STAR position, went on to log 135 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and three interceptions over the last two seasons, earning honorable mention and second team All-Big 12 honors in 2022 and 2023. Barron is one of the most underappreciated defensive playmakers in the conference.

As the top defensive back for the Longhorns in the cycle, Barron entered Texas as the No. 10 cornerback in the nation and the No. 20 player in the state of Texas. Barron was a valuable member of Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense and a superb playmaker for Texas after seeing limited action in his first two seasons.

In addition to providing the Longhorns with a leader and a playmaker on the field, his return to the Texas secondary gives them access to one of the best secondaries in the nation. The return of Malik Muhammad, Terrance Brooks, and Derek Williams, along with the addition of blue chip transfer Andrew Mukuba, gives the Longhorns a secondary that hasn’t seen this level of talent in a number of seasons.

Steve Sarkisian, the head football coach of the Texas Longhorns, consents to a contract extension.

AUSTIN, Texas—Steve Sarkisian, the head football coach at the University of Texas, has agreed to a four-year contract extension. This news dispels some rumors that Sarkisian may leave to take over for retiring Nick Saban at Alabama or enter the NFL. Last year, Sarkisian led the UT football program to its best season in fifteen years, winning its first Big 12 championship since 2009 and making its first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.

According to a press release on texassports.com, Kevin Eltife, Chairman of the UT System Board of Regents, “Coach Sark is an incredible coach, a first-class person, and a tremendous leader of men.”

Sarkisian signed a six-year contract at UT in 2021, and he recently completed his third year there. Sarkisian is anticipated to stay with the team until 2030 as a result of the extension.

Next season, Texas will participate in the SEC conference.
