Report: Titans DC to Be Interviewed by Jaguars Shane Bowen Will Play Same Part
Is it possible that the Jacksonville Jaguars will consider a well-known opponent to fill the position of defensive coordinator? The Jaguars are scheduled to interview Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen for the same position, as reported by ESPN’s Turron Davenport. Despite Mike Vrabel’s firing, Bowen and other Titans assistants are free to interview elsewhere.
After firing Mike Caldwell as defensive coordinator on Monday night, the Jaguars are now searching for a new coordinator. Just three of Pederson’s eleven defensive staff members remain after the Jaguars fired seven additional defensive assistants. After the 2023 season, the Jaguars were ranked No. 17 in terms of points scored, No. 22 in terms of yards per game, No. 13 in terms of EPA/Play allowed, and No. 12 in terms of Success Rate allowed.
Bowen followed Vrabel to the Houston Texans in 2016 after they first connected at Ohio State in 2012. After two seasons with the Texans, Bowen followed Vrabel to Tennessee in 2018. Ten days after taking over as head coach, Vrabel appointed Bowen as the outside linebackers coach.
When defensive coordinator Dean Pees resigned in 2020, Bowen continued to coach outside linebackers, but this was the first season that Vrabel gave him play-calling duties.
In 2021, Bowen received an official promotion to defensive coordinator as the Titans advanced to the No. 1 seed while scoring the sixth-most points per game in the league. Since then, Bowen has served as the Titans’ defensive coordinator; however, due to injuries and a roster undergoing significant turnover, the team’s defensive statistics have declined recently.
