Washington Huskies head coach Pete Carroll, a former Seahawks assistant, has been appointed.
Both the Washington Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks lost head coaches in the last few days, but the Huskies have already hired a replacement for Kalen DeBoer, the recently hired head coach of Alabama. Welcome back to Seattle, Jedd Fisch!
Fisch was the head coach at the University of Arizona from 2021 to 2023 before coming here. He succeeded Kevin Sumlin, whose 9–20 record was crowned by a 0–5 season cut short by COVID-19. In his first season, Fisch finished 1-11; in 2022, he improved to 5-7; and in 2023, he made a breakthrough with a 10-3 record; their only losses came to Mississippi State, Washington, and USC by single digits. Arizona finished No. 11 in the Associated Poll and Coaches Poll rankings following an Alamo Bowl victory over Oklahoma.
The Fisch hiring has a connection to the Seahawks! In 2010—Pete Carroll’s first season as head coach—Fisch was the Seahawks’ quarterbacks coach. Before returning to the NFL for two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars under former Seahawks DC Gus Bradley, he left to work as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Miami.
And Fisch’s offensive coordinator during his tenure as head coach of Arizona? None other than Pete Carroll’s son, Brennan Carroll, a former assistant with the Seattle Seahawks. It’s still unclear if Carroll will move to Seattle to live with Jedd. Brennan might end up working in Arizona.
