Alabama AD Describes Nick Saban’s Future Involvement in the Program
Although Nick Saban announced his retirement as Alabama’s head football coach last week, he will still be active in the school’s athletic department going forward. Saban would have “100% access” to the program, according to new Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer, but it was unclear what kind of role the former Alabama coach would play going forward at the university. Greg Byrne, the athletic director, clarified that on The Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday. Byrne informed Finebaum, “He is going to be an advisor for us.” “He has been fantastic. We had a conversation while I was looking for a coach.
“Well, I was asked, ‘Was he involved?'” I thought to myself, “Man, I’m not very smart.” Many people are aware of that, but I’m astute enough to recognize that it would be a disgrace for me to pass up the opportunity to speak with Nick Saban about coaching, football, decision-making, and leadership “. In addition to helping Byrne hire DeBoer, Saban has actively engaged in conversations with recruits regarding Alabama’s new coach and the reasons the program is still the best fit for them in the long run.
“He’s been very helpful trying to talk to the young men that he’s recruited here and just again say we’re in a really good spot going forward, and he’ll continue to be here and be part of our program, and we’re very happy for that,” Byrne said.
Even though Saban isn’t on the field anymore, his influence over the Alabama football team and the larger athletic department won’t go away.

Perhaps surprisingly, one media person who is a devoted Florida State supporter thinks the Hurricanes should be the front-runners for the ACC championship.

Elliott is right when he says Miami has a lot of players in the offensive trenches. The Canes might get the best quarterback in the ACC by adding Ward. Elliott makes the following general point regarding the significance of UM getting Ward’s signature.
