The Tigers continued their unbeaten home record as a ranked team in their all-time series against Ole Miss. Following a difficult week of road trips to play the Crimson Tide and Mississippi State, Auburn is still the only unbeaten team in SEC play after Alabama’s Saturday afternoon loss to Tennessee in Knoxville. Following his team’s impressive showing against the Rebels on both ends of the court, Pearl had the following to say.
“Well, we have to return to Oxford in two weeks. I’m not going to get too excited because I’m already beginning to get ready. I mentioned this to our guys because they would occasionally ask me, “Coach, are you impressed yet?” Actually, I haven’t. We haven’t yet faced a lot of ranked teams, which contributes to some of it. However, Ole Miss is ranked. They make a strong team. extremely well-coached. Excellent staff. older men. Jeez, those guys who have played so much basketball—Jaemyn Brakefield, Matthew Murrell, Allen Flanigan, and the young Murray—are amazing. They are all twenty points a night. It was impressive to play that well and maintain our level of control over the game.”
“I was especially thinking about how we guarded. did a fantastic job of guarding without fouling, particularly in the first half. I came up with a fantastic illustration of what I want this team to strive to be like: Ira Bowman assists with the replacements. Lior Berman was getting a lot of playing time and was performing admirably. especially on the defensive end. He was tangible. He had spent four years competing against Al. Did a really good job. was exerting a lot of defensive effort. worked well in that situation. Chad Baker was scheduled to enter, and it was past his time to leave. Ira hears Chad Baker say, “Leave him in there.” Lior is performing really well. It’s truly exceptional to have teammates who are like that.
“They were imprisoned, and I believe they are starting to appreciate that they can make things difficult for the opposition. And they are using their defense to generate some offensive. However, it all comes down to selflessness. Do you understand what it takes to be where you need to be at the right time and take the necessary actions in order to be able to sit down and guard? We do not fall asleep when we go to the bench, as we have been saying the entire time. Is it because our bench is so strong or are our starters just not good enough? Fall and summer were even. I could get Tre or Aden started. I could begin in Denver or KD. Chad Baker is my favorite three-man. Lior and Chris will attest to that. Coming off the bench is him. Jaylin has performed admirably. However, Chaney Johnson? Didn’t he show you some weird stuff tonight? I’ll tell you what, he’s capable of some pretty amazing things out there. I felt pleased for Chaney. I’m not kind to Chaney. However, he puts forth a lot of effort in his work. Well, oof. Whoa. Dylan and Johni followed. As in,
