Quick Facts: Learn about Tom Telesco, general manager of the Raiders

Tom Telesco was named general manager of the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday.

Here are some details regarding Telesco’s journey to the Silver and Black.

1. In 1991, Telesco worked as an intern at the Buffalo Bills’ training camp, his first taste of the NFL. In 1995, he made the move to the Carolina Panthers as a scouting assistant. In 1998, he signed a contract to play for the Indianapolis Colts, where he worked for 15 years in a variety of scouting and player personnel roles.

2. The San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers hired Telesco as general manager in 2013. In his 11 seasons with the team, he became the youngest general manager in the history of the team and drafted several players who went on to become Pro Bowlers, including Derwin James Jr. (2018), Justin Herbert (2020), Joey Bosa (2016), and Keenan Allen (2013).

3. Telesco lists former NFL executive Bill Polian as a mentor, referring to the time Polian was Buffalo’s general manager during Polian’s internship at the Bills. During the Pro Football Hall of Famer’s tenures with the Panthers and Colts, Telesco was a member of Polian’s staff.

4. Telesco was raised in Hamburg, New York, and attended St. Francis High School, where he played football at the position of wide receiver/cornerback alongside current Giants head coach Brian Daboll (Daboll was a safety). After playing wide receiver for four years at John Carroll University, Telesco joined the Blue Streaks in 1994 and helped them win a championship.
