Ahead of Super Bowl 58 versus the Chiefs, Draymond Green of the Warriors speaks out about Brock Purdy’s “slander.”

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is surrounded by Warriors’ Draymond Green.

Although there are many things to say about Draymond Green, as a hype man, you want him on your side. Following the Golden State Warriors’ victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at home, the four-time champion offered some encouragement to a local sports hero who has been the subject of intense scrutiny the entire season.

According to Green, there has been a lot of Brock Purdy slander in the past few years, via ClutchPoints (formerly Warriors on NBCS). “I saw Stephen A. Smith say, ‘No more questions about Purdy if he shows up in the Super Bowl!'” I’m aware of this better because he has the ability to play in the Super Bowl, and if he has a poor start to the season, people will say, “He’s a game manager.”

The situation facing the young quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers is aptly summarized by Green, but it may go even farther. With so much talent surrounding Mr. Irrelevant, the stakes have been raised considerably. Many will give credit to the aforementioned star power and head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive creativity if San Francisco defeats the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs.

With everything that Purdy has accomplished so far this year, she merits recognition devoid of doubt and criticism. Although a player’s performance in pivotal situations frequently outweighs their mistakes in the past, the 24-year-old isn’t everyone’s favorite Captain Clutch. Not yet, anyhow.

As Draymond Green points out, some supporters are always prepared to leap on a player the instant he steps back, pitchforks in hand. However, if Brock Purdy manages to steal the Lombardi Trophy away from Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, he will go down in NFL history as an immortal.

It is something to be proud of, that a distinguished athlete thinks highly of him. Purdy may experience the same joys and hardships as Green does in less than two weeks when he wins a championship.
