Sean Payton’s pipeline from New Orleans to Denver may also include a quarterback selected in this spring’s draft.
ALABASTER, AL — This week, Sean Payton has continued to mold Denver into a team that resembles New Orleans West.
This week, the Broncos made moves to bring on two longtime Saints: scout Cody Rager and former offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr.
They join a long list of others, including several players on the roster with connections to the Bayou, offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, linebackers coach Joe Vitt, offensive line coach Zach Strief, and tight ends coach Declan Doyle.
Of course, that’s not shocking given that Payton was the head coach there from 2006 to 2021, but it’s noteworthy that the additions have hardly decreased since the coach’s debut in Denver.
An intriguing hypothetical development: What if Denver made the decision to try developing a quarterback from New Orleans as well?
That would be Michael Pratt of Tulane, a Senior Bowl participant who came into the week with most people predicting that he would be selected in the second or third round of the April draft.
For the most part, Pratt has made clean, fast decisions during the first two practices of the week. He has also stated that he is learning a lot.

Three ways to acquire Sean Payton’s quarterback this offseason by the Bears and Justin Fields
This concludes chapter nine of the offseason narrative about Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears.
There have been rumors this week that Sean Payton, the head coach of the Denver Broncos, wants to start a rookie quarterback in place of Russell Wilson.
The issue lies in the fact that Denver, assuming they want one of the top three quarterbacks in this class—Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels—will be out of luck by the time they get the opportunity to select at No. 12 overall.
There’s a perception that Payton will pursue his target aggressively at this point.
This one is rather easy. Experts differ on whether Fields is worth a second or third round pick alone, with some speculating that the Bears could select as high as the Falcons’ eighth pick.
Fields and two mid-round picks would be exchanged for a first and third round pick by the Bears in this scenario. It makes perfect sense for both parties to do this deal if Payton had faith in Fields and their potential as a team.
The Bears would therefore most likely select Caleb Williams first overall and also possess the ninth and twelfth picks. Consider the options that arise. With those selections, Chicago could select Williams number one in addition to a wide receiver like Rome Odunze and a pass rusher like Laiatu Latu.
