First-ever Charity Shield announced by Collingwood and Richmond

With great pleasure, Collingwood announces that the inaugural Charity Shield will be played during its upcoming AAMI Community Series match against Richmond.

On Tuesday, February 27 at 6:40 p.m., Ikon Park will host the Charity Shield game. Proceeds from the game will benefit Foodbank.

Foodbank feeds 57,000 Victorians every day, the most in its 93-year history as a food relief organization.

Sadly, families are going days without eating in 628,000 homes throughout Victoria; almost half of these households cannot afford to buy the food that keeps them and their children healthy.

The goal of the two teams’ collaboration, according to Collingwood CEO Craig Kelly, is to significantly improve the lives of those who are less fortunate.

“Our Club has a unique opportunity to work with Richmond and support a very important cause by participating in the Charity Shield match,” Kelly stated.

“The game inspires Richmond’s supporters and the Magpie Army to unite for a cause greater than football.

We are aware that many people struggle every day to put food on the table, but with this match, we hope to significantly improve the lives of many by raising vital funds for those in need of food assistance.

CEO of Richmond Brendon Gale stated that the intention of the two largest football clubs in the league, Richmond and Collingwood, was to make the Charity Shield a yearly preseason match, with all proceeds going to the most deserving charities.

As the two teams in the competition with the closest geographic distances, Richmond and Collingwood have long maintained a friendly rivalry; however, he stated, “we will be bringing our Club’s and our fanbases together through the Charity Shield.”

Numerous individuals in the community

“A lot of people in the community are struggling, and even something as basic as putting food on the table can be difficult.

“If we pack out Ikon Park later this month, Richmond, Collingwood, and our members and supporters will have collectively made a significant difference to this.”

Families gave up food to maintain a roof over their heads, according to Foodbank Victoria CEO Dave McNamara.

“We provide food to 57,000 underprivileged Victorians every day. That surpasses a crowded Marvel stadium. We see people from all different backgrounds, and almost all of them have a favorite football team.

We can guarantee that nobody will go without during the football season because of the Tigers and Pies’ incredible dedication to the Charity Shield. Two meals are produced for every dollar donated. That’s how easy it is.
