The most recent coaching search update fuels rumors of a Bill O’Brien-Boston College relationship.

Bill O’Brien is still vying to be the football head coach at Boston College.

The Boston College football team is working hard to put together a shortlist of potential head coaches so that a selection can be made within the next week. Bill O’Brien, the offensive coordinator at Ohio State, is starting to emerge as a potential candidate, as reported by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.

Even though he had a terribly unsuccessful season as an offensive coordinator with the 4-13 New England Patriots the previous year, O’Brien is still a respected figure in coaching circles. In addition, he has expertise revitalizing teams.

In the midst of the horrifying Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal, he did his best to bring the community together and somehow managed to keep Penn State competitive. After that, O’Brien assisted the Houston Texans in getting back on track, helping them win four division titles in five years. Despite being fired in 2020 after just four games, his tenure did not end well, but he has a knack for inspiring a team.

And Boston College needs that after former head coach Jeff Hafley left to join the Green Bay Packers as their new defensive coordinator in the NFL. But in the long run, the Golden Eagles might benefit from this sudden departure. In his four seasons on the show, Hafley went 22–26, carrying on a tiresome pattern of mediocrity that began in 2010

.

Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Bill O’Brien may be the voice of reason the Golden Eagles need to get back on track in the Atlantic Coast Conference. However, it might mean that he has to have a difficult talk with Ohio State head coach Ryan Day.
