“Judging from what I’ve heard, he seems like a really good human being,” said Ken Dorsey, who was eager to “push and drive” Deshaun Watson and assured that he would reach the “next level.”

Since the trade that sent Deshaun Watson to Ohio in March 2022, his time with the Cleveland Browns has been somewhat of a back burner.

Watson was sidelined for the majority of the 2023 season due to injuries, which played spoilsport. But in the few games he did get to start, the Browns emerged victorious, going 5-1. His season finale against Baltimore was a spectacle as he finished a perfect 14-for-14 in the second half and masterminded a 33-31 comeback win.

At his Monday press conference, Ken Dorsey—a recent addition to the Browns coaching staff—took the mic and showered quarterback Deshaun Watson with praise.

“I’m extremely excited to work with this offense, especially Deshaun and him being one of the top quarterbacks in this league, the opportunity to really go out there this season and help him prove that he really is that — a top quarterback in this league that can operate and help us win a bunch of football games,” Dorsey stated. “So, I’m super excited about that opportunity and really looking forward to this challenge.”

After serving as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills for two years, Dorsey is eager to take on the challenge because he believes Watson has potential. He raised the stakes for the next season with his statement, “I’m really looking forward to this challenge and I’m super excited about that opportunity.”

However, in spite of the enthusiasm and good feelings, there have been some setbacks with the Cleveland Watson experiment. According to the 2023 stat sheet, Watson completed 61% of his passes for 1,115 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions. He ran for 142 yards on the ground and a touchdown, averaging a strong 5.5 yards per carry.

Despite the bumps, Dorsey sees the bright side. He believes that Watson’s desire to learn and his desire to get better are what really matter. “He desires coaching.” “He’s eager to be challenged and motivated,” stressed Dorsey, who was prepared to take over from the current employees.

The intriguing thing about Deshaun is that, based on what Kevin and the other guys have told me, he wants to be coached. “He desires to be prodded and motivated,” Dorsey remarked. “And I think I’ll be able to pick up where the staff has left off on that.”

Over the course of his 12-game Cleveland stint spanning the previous two years, Watson has accumulated 2,217 passing yards, completing 60% of his passes with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Although it might not be all touchdowns and fireworks, Cleveland appears ready for an offensive push led by Watson in the upcoming campaign now that Dorsey is on board.
