Tony Romo feels Sean Payton can bring out the best in the next quarterback for the Broncos.
LAS VEGAS: Tony Romo is one of the people who knows the most about Sean Payton’s methods with quarterbacks.
Romo and Payton collaborated in Dallas for three years. The undrafted rookie who arrived in 2003 was named Romo. After four years with the New York Giants, Payton joined Dallas as the offensive coordinator.
And Romo realized then, as he does now, one thing:
Regarding his former coach, the NFL analyst on CBS stated, “Well, I think Sean adjusts to his quarterback.”
That matters in terms of Russell Wilson’s prospective retrospective. It’s also important as Sean Payton and the Broncos prepare for Wilson’s replacement should they decide to let go of the 12-year veteran quarterback, whether that means adding a draft pick, signing a veteran, or doing both.
“I believe the most important thing for him, or any quarterback who plays with Sean, is to just get fully immersed in the game of football,” Romo went on.
Sean will extract the maximum potential from you. And environment does matter sometimes, don’t they? Sean will adapt based on whether his offensive linemen and receivers are good or not.
When Sean Payton was in New Orleans, both 2021 starter Jameis Winston and stand-in Teddy Bridgewater were playing some of their best football. This is evidence that Payton knows how to get the most out of his quarterback. Drew Brees’ return to the starting lineup ended Bridgewater’s 2019 season, but he was able to capitalize on it by signing a big contract and earning a starting position in Carolina the following year. With seven game starts under his belt, Winston had a 14-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
The other areas where the Broncos improved last season will matter if Payton can get that out of whoever throws passes to him this season.
I thought they really came on year one,” Romo remarked. He performed a fantastic job, in my opinion, of truly understanding his own team. And I believe that will get better the following year.
But in the AFC West minefield, that’s still hard to do.
They are currently in a very challenging division. Some of the best coaches ever are among you. Jim Harbaugh, now Andy Reid. Sean John Payton. It seems like one of those situations where you could play everything perfectly and still lose.
However, I believe that Sean will figure everything out very soon.
