Harry Maguire’s exceptional solo performance against Aston Villa earned him a spot in the most recent BBC Team of the Week.
Since the beginning of the year, Manchester United appears to have their act together. The fact that Erik ten Hag can select from a nearly fully fit squad and that the outcomes are much better is no coincidence.
Give credit where it’s due. The Dutchman could have easily buckled under the pressure, as could the dressing room. Instead, they are currently engaged in combat over their top four lives. Another illustration of that was the spirited victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.
Despite Lisandro Martinez’s impending absence for the next few months, United appears to have a much stronger and more stable defense. Harry Maguire has United to thank for that against Villa. He was exceptional beyond measure.

Aston Villa’s lack of ruthlessness in ending the match against Manchester United has been lamented by Jacob Ramsey.

“We could have won on a different day,” he remarked. “Both Ollie and I have had two or three opportunities, particularly in the first half. We end the game if we put those away.
“You just need to look at the performance. We can draw positives from it, even though we obviously want to win games and haven’t been playing well at home lately. Being a large team, Man United was probably in control, but we just didn’t have enough last-minute opportunities in the final third.
