In 2024, how much will Auburn pay all of its football coaches combined?

Vontrell King-Williams’ elevation to the position of defensive tackles coach suggests Auburn has decided on its starting lineup for the 2024 campaign. Five new coaches have joined Auburn’s coaching staff following a number of departures from the 2023 campaign owing to resignations, firings, or accepting offers of employment.

Auburn’s coaching staff as of February 14 is listed below.

Coach in chief: Hugh Freeze
Derrick Nix is the running backs coach and offensive coordinator.
D.J. Durkin is the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach; Charles Kelly is the co-defensive coordinator and safety coach.

Coach of quarterbacks: Kent Austin
Coach of wide receivers: Marcus Davis
Ben Aigamaua, coach of tight ends
Coach of the offensive line: Jake Thornton
Vontrell is the defensive tackles coach. Josh Aldridge is the coach of edge rushers at King-Williams.
Coach of cornerbacks: Wesley McGriff
Auburn will pay its assistant coaches less overall than in 2023. After receiving $6.91 million in 2023, Auburn will pay its assistant coaches $6.425 million in 2024. That is a reduction of $485,000.

The loss of Auburn’s four most expensive assistant coaches in 2023—defensive coordinator Ron Roberts, offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery, running backs coach Cadillac Williams, and safeties coach Zac Etheridge—contributes to the cost reduction in part.

Last season, Auburn paid Williams $900,000 and at least $1 million to Roberts and Montgomery. Only one assistant coach at Auburn now earns more than $1 million, and no other coach’s pay even comes close to matching Williams’ $900,000 contract.

This winter, raises were added to the contracts of a number of Auburn’s retained assistant coaches. Below is a reflection of those totals.

The 2024 salaries for each coach are shown below.

$6.5 million for Hugh Freeze
Durkin, D.J.: $1.2 million
Charles Kelly: $875,000.
$800,000 for Derrick Nix
$650,000 for Wesley McGriff
$600,000 for Jake Thornton
$500,000 to Josh Aldridge
Aldridge’s contract was amended to include a raise structure that, should he continue working for Auburn, will result in a $50,000 raise on February 1, 2025.
Aldridge’s contract was extended by one year.

$500,000 is Vontrell King-Williams’s
Marcus Davis: $450,000
Davis’s pay increased by $25,000 as of February 1, 2024. His contract was amended to include a raise structure that would allow him to get an additional $50,000 if he was still working on February 1, 2025.
Davis’s contract was extended for an additional year.
Aigamaua Ben: $450,000
Starting on February 1, 2024, Aigamaua will receive a raise of $25,000. His contract was amended to include a raise structure that would allow him to get an additional $50,000 if he was still working on February 1, 2025.
Aigauma’s contract was extended for an additional year.

If Auburn advances to the Birmingham Bowl, Liberty Bowl, or Independence Bowl, they will receive a bonus equivalent to 4% of their current salary.

Auburn would receive a $15,000 bonus if they advance to the SEC Championship Game but lose.
