Former QB for the Cleveland Browns abruptly retires to take a coaching position in the NFL

In order to become a coach for the 2024 season, a former quarterback for the Cleveland Browns is leaving the NFL. After the Super Bowl, there was some staff turnover in the league this week; however, most coaching positions should be filled within the next week or so.

Former Browns quarterback David Blough has accepted the position of assistant quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Blough will report to Kliff Kingsbury, the offensive coordinator for the Commanders.

After the 2019 NFL Draft, Blough became an undrafted free agent and was signed by the Browns. In August of 2019, the Purdue product was dealt to the Detroit Lions. He would remain in Detroit for the 2021–2022 campaign. Before ending his playing career with the Detroit Lions for the 2023 campaign, Blough was a member of the Minnesota Vikings and the Arizona Cardinals.

Blough last participated in a Cardinals regular season in 2022. Six touchdowns, nine interceptions, and 1,435 passing yards were totaled by him during his career.
With the Commanders slated to select second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Blough will probably have the opportunity to work with one of the best prospects in the league. Rumor has it that the Commanders will attempt to exchange the first overall pick for a trade with the Chicago Bears.
