Three quarterbacks have a better chance of winning the first Super Bowl before Lamar Jackson, according to ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, who arrived late for work.
Three quarterbacks have a better chance of winning the first Super Bowl, according to ESPN’s Mike Greenberg. Prior to Lamar Jackson
Shortly after winning the league MVP award for the second time in five seasons, Lamar Jackson said he gets driven by the desire to disprove his detractors.
“For me to continue being Lamar Jackson, I need the doubters to keep going, to keep adding fuel to that fire,” Jackson said to our Garrett Downing last week at NFL Honors in Las Vegas.
It’s possible that the “Get Up” crew on ESPN has added more fuel. The top five quarterbacks who will go on to win their first Super Bowl were ranked by Mike Greenberg on the show.
Just get us there already, that’s the goal since 201 We adore the NFL. Without that Bowl look at me here tweeting instead of telling my teammates how amazing the feeling is , the offseason is boring.
Jackson was ranked only No. 4 by Greenberg, despite leading the Ravens to a league-best 13-4 record and coming within one game of the Super Bowl. Greenberg felt compelled to provide an explanation for Jackson’s inclusion on the list.
If it wasn’t this year, to be honest, I don’t know when he’s going to win it “said Greenberg. “Everything seemed to be set up perfectly, but that team is too talented, he’s too good, and the coaching is too good to leave him off a list like this.”
The quarterbacks who were ranked ahead of Jackson were Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers, and Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers.
Burrow is ranked first by Louis Riddick, Marcus Spears, and Field Yates, three of Greenberg’s colleagues.
Jackson is ranked #1 in the 2023 QB Index by NFL.com.
This one is too good for Jackson to use as fuel.
Nick Shook of NFL.com ranked all 66 quarterbacks who started at least one game in the previous season, and Jackson came in first.
“It wasn’t Jackson’s best season. However, the high points were extremely noteworthy, and their timing couldn’t have been better for his MVP case,” Shook wrote.
Jackson, who was ranked first in 2019 as well, was ranked 12th in 2022 after an injury kept him from playing in just 12 games.
Pro Football Focus lists J.K. Dobbins and Kevin Zeitler as two of the most undervalued offensive free agents. Every offensive position had one undervalued free agent listed by Gordon McGuinness. Guard Kevin Zeitler and running back J.K. Dobbins were on the list.
“Were it not for an Achilles injury that ended his 2023 season in Week 1, Dobbins could have been hitting the offseason with a chance to be one of the top-paid running backs in free agency,” McGuinness stated. “A player who is only 25 years old, has only 266 NFL carries over four seasons, and has averaged 5.6 yards per attempt in his NFL career will probably get a one-year prove-it deal because of that injury.
“Zeitler appears determined to pursue his career, which should pique the interest of any team trying to address a short-term interior offensive line need. He had a difficult first few weeks of the season with the Ravens, but as the season progressed, he gained more confidence. After Week 3, he only had one game where his PFF pass-blocking grade was lower than 70.0.”
At the team’s press conference to conclude the season, General Manager Eric DeCosta mentioned that the Ravens might decide to re-sign Dobbins and/or Zeitler.
Zeitler, who was selected to his first Pro Bowl this past season, has expressed his desire to rejoin the Ravens, and DeCosta stated they have talked about an extension. Zeitler is a 12-year veteran.
The Ravens would have until this Monday at 4 p.m. to re-sign Zeitler in order to avoid having to pay $4.3 million in “dead money” on the salary cap. The Ravens would have to cover both the dead money and the cost of a new contract if he resigned after that deadline.
