Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou ‘confident’ of fifth signing to take spending past £100m

Ange Postecoglou has been very busy in the summer transfer window so far and doesn’t intend to stop spending just yet.

Ange Postecoglou is confident he will make £25million Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven Tottenam’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, according to reports. The former Celtic boss is looking to revamp the north Londoners’ backline after an abysmal defensive showing last season.

During the 2023/2024 campaign, Tottenham conceded the sixth most goals in the Premier League behind only Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Southampton and Leeds, who all either suffered relegation or came close to dropping out of England’s top flight.

But Postecoglou believes Van de Ven will go a long way in helping fix Spurs’ leaky defence. The 22-year-old was among the best young defenders in the Bundesliga last season and would add much-needed depth to the left-sided centre-back role.

According to the Mirror, Van de Ven is keen on the move despite interest in him from elsewhere but is one of two options for Postecoglou in the position.

The other is Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen, however, despite being seen as a more ready made player by the club, he comes with a hefty price tag of £50m. Meanwhile, Van de Ven is available for half the money and so it is thought Postecoglou is more likely to move for the Dutchman.

Providing the deal gets over the line then it would take Tottenham’s total transfer spending to £107.8m. Postecoglou has already snapped up Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent transfer worth £25.6m following an impressive spell on loan from Juventus last season.

While Guglielmo Vicario came in for £17.2million from Empoli to replace long-serving Hugo Lloris. The most expensive signing of the season so far is the capture of James Maddison from Leicester for £40m which took their summer spending close to nine figures.

JUST IN: Tottenham has beat Chelsea over £26m talented player from…..

TOTTENHAM NOW TRYING TO HIJACK CHELSEA IN RACE FOR £26M STRIKER

Tottenham Hotspur are making their move for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi in the hope of hijacking Chelsea.

Elye Wahi is emerging as a key target for Tottenham Hotspur as they plot a move for the Montpellier forward.

That is according to a report from French newspaper Midi Libre, who claim that a Tottenham offer for Wahi is expected ‘in the next few hours’.

The report carries quotes from Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin, claiming that Chelsea have made an offer for Wahi.

However, the fee on offer was not to Montpellier’s liking, opening the door to a potential hijack.

L’Equipe suggested earlier in June that Montpellier would like a deal worth around £26million for their prized striker.

Fabrizio Romano reported just a few days ago that Chelsea were ‘advancing in talks’ to sign Wahi.

The Blues wanted to get a deal done before other clubs pounced, but they have so far been unable to tempt Montpellier into selling.

Tottenham are allegedly ready to pounce, though this could of course be a negotiation tactic.

Leaking allegedly interest from Tottenham may push Chelsea into making a higher offer out of fear of losing out to a bitter rival.

That’s guesswork on our part but this is how the transfer window works at times, with Montpellier wanting the best deal possible.

Chelsea face problem with Tottenham target Elye Wahi

French forward Wahi was simply sensational last season.

The 20-year-old smashed 19 goals in 33 Ligue 1 games last season, becoming one of the top young talents in French football.

Wahi has been the source of major interest as a result and Tottenham could look to benefit from some problems in Chelsea’s move.

Not only is their offer not up to Montpellier’s standards but there is an issue with Wahi’s plans.

RMC Sport reported last week that Wahi had no interest in Chelsea’s plan to loan him straight on to Strasbourg.

Todd Boehly and BlueCo have purchased Strasbourg, making them a partner club of Chelsea.

The Blues want to sign Wahi and loan him to Strasbourg, but the striker – who finished above Strasbourg with Montpellier last season – isn’t so keen.

That’s an issue Chelsea will have to iron out but there is now a chance that Tottenham look to swoop in and offer him a route straight to the Premier League.

‘I need to get out’: Tottenham fans told what ‘fantastic’ player is saying behind-the-scenes

I NEED TO GET OUT’: TOTTENHAM FANS TOLD WHAT ‘FANTASTIC’ PLAYER IS SAYING BEHIND-THE-SCENES

Jay Bothroyd says Harry Kane will be telling people behind-the-scenes at Tottenham Hotspur that he needs to ‘get out’.

The one-cap England striker thinks it is ‘perceived’ in the media that Harry Kane is ‘sitting back’ and is relaxed about his future.

But Bothroyd thinks, when the cameras are away, he is urging Tottenham to let him go, as he told Sky Sports’ Transfer Show.

Bayern Munich are the ones knocking the hardest for his signature – the 29-year-old has 12 months left on his current deal.

It seems as though they are leading the race for the 213-goal Premier League star, even though the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea have had a long-term interest.

For Bothroyd, whilst he thinks Kane will be asking to leave, he doesn’t think he will be keen on Bayern, and instead, he feels he will want to join either Manchester Unite or re-unite with Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

“I think they should just say ‘Harry, you have been fantastic here at this club. You have done wonders and overstayed, to be honest. Go and get your move. Go and get the chance to win stuff’,” said Bothroyd.

“I think it’s the way it is perceived that Harry Kane, the way he is sitting back and training. That’s the way it’s perceived.

“But what he is actually saying is ‘I need to get out of here’. That’s the way players will speak. They will say what they need to say to the cameras and the media because he wants to look like a good pro. He is England’s captain. He needs to look good as well.

“But I can tell you right now, he will be saying to his management, whoever it is, ‘you need to get me out of here. I need to move. You need to get me to such and such clubs’. The only ones are Chelsea and Manchester United. That would be his priority. Bayern Munich are on the back burner. They are there, but he’s not interested in that.”

Kane transfer saga needs to be resolved quickly

If Kane does move, the club that secures his talents won’t care if he arrived next week or on deadline day. They have got their man and they will be overjoyed by it all.

But, for Spurs themselves, the situation needs sorting out. He either goes or signs a new deal, and all of this has to be done ASAP.

It will then allow Ange Postecoglou to build and, if need be, prepare for life after Kane because it’s not going to be easy.
