Nottingham Forest have now received an offer for Richie Laryea

Nottingham Forest have now received an official bid from Toronto FC for Richie Laryea. The Reds are weighing up whether to accept the deal for a player who doesn’t seem to have a future on Trentside.

According to TFC Republic, the fate of the player is now in the hands of Forest. Laryea was signed from Toronto FC in January 2022 but after just five appearances he was loaned back to the Candian franchise.

Laryea is highly unlikely to get another chance to impress Forest. Ultimately, the fact that Forest won promotion when they did has proved detrimental to the flying wing-back.

Steve Cooper was unlikely to be the orchestra behind the signing of Laryea in the first instance. Dane Murphy was the club’s CEO at the time and it’s likely that the 28-year-old was signed by him.

The defender has been a decent player for Toronto FC, making 112 appearances for the club in total. Laryea has also made 44 appearances for his country and featured at the World Cup where he was called ‘fearless’ by the national press.

Forest will surely accept the offer that they have on the table for Laryea. The Reds are desperate to bolster their own squad and ultimately they need to trim players off the wage budget first.

Forest receive official bid from Toronto for Laryea

This looks like a complete no-brainer. Laryea has no future at the City Ground and whatever offer is on the table, Forest would be wise to accept it.

Laryea has been a victim of the success that Forest have had over the last two years. He’s struggled to get in the team with better players in his position.

Forest now have Ola Aina, Serge Aurier and Neco Williams who can operate at right-back. Furthermore, Gulian Biancone is also nearing a return from his serious knee injury.

It makes no logical sense for Forest to keep hold of a 28-year-old who has just two years to run on his existing City Ground deal.

Laryea will know in his own mind that his time at Forest is over. As a result, there seems little point of the Reds stopping him from joining a club he holds close to his heart.
