Many people think that the Chicago Bears, who own the first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, will select Caleb Williams with that pick. An established NFL insider predicts a different outcome.

After 44 years of service, NBC Sports’ esteemed NFL writer and reporter Peter King announced his retirement on Monday with the publication of his final “Football Morning in America” column. Although he acknowledged not having any inside knowledge of the Bears’ current plans, King thinks Chicago will trade the top pick and stick with it.

King sees one scenario playing out in which the Bears, who would surely love to have Williams, first move back to No. 2 via a trade with the Washington Commanders. King thinks the Bears could make another trade back if they choose that path, perhaps with the Atlanta Falcons at No. 8. Chicago might be able to maximise profits and make an even larger haul than anticipated as a result.

Whether the Bears still have faith in Fields is the question. Though he was a little evasive in his response, new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron recently stated that he believes Fields can succeed in his offence.

For Fields and the top pick, the Bears still have two months to assess the trade markets. Though it’s possible that even they are still unsure of their plan, oddsmakers appear to be betting heavily on Williams. For this reason, one of the AFC teams is the clear favourite to sign Fields in the upcoming weeks.

Chicago Bears: Three Teams They May Also Trade for the First Overall Pick in the NFL Draft of 2024

The top overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft belongs to the Chicago Bears. Chicago was selected for that position for the second season in a row. The Bears gave the Carolina Panthers that selection in the previous season.

They have it this year because Carolina had the worst record in the league at the end of the season. This year, Chicago’s initial selection is ranked ninth overall. With this selection, the Bears have a plethora of options. They have two options: they can trade the selection to a team and trade down, or they can keep it and choose someone they like.

The Washington Commanders are Chicago’s best trade partner in the 2024 NFL Draft. At the moment, they are in position two in the draft. Washington would be the better choice if Chicago wishes to get away from Justin Fields at quarterback but does not want Caleb Williams.
Williams was born in Washington, D.C., so playing for his home team would be a dream come true for him. Chicago would receive at least one, if not both, of the Commanders’ multiple second-round selections in this year’s draft.
