While not moving quickly, the Lions “aligned” with Jared Goff in contract negotiations.

INDIA — Jared Goff has expressed his desire to play a long-term role with the Detroit Lions.

Furthermore, Brad Holmes remained quiet when it came to the starting quarterback’s next moves as he approached a contract year. However, the general manager of the Lions stated that both parties are in agreement on where they want to take those discussions moving forward.

When questioned about the rush to re-sign Goff, Holmes responded, “No, we haven’t really weighed that into any of our decision-making,” at the scouting combine.

Goff, as previously mentioned, is about to enter a contract year. The seasoned quarterback will receive a salary of $21.7 million, with $31.7 million going towards the cap.

And in the world of quarterback contracts that are always growing, Goff’s previous top-paying deal places him 17th in the league among signal-callers.

Most predict that his final new contract will pay him in excess of $45 million per season, catapulting him back into the elite echelon of quarterback deals. Spotrac projects that Goff’s next contract will be worth $180 million over four years, which is exactly the $45 million per season that was predicted.

Since the Matthew Stafford trade, which started this regime’s rebuilding efforts in Detroit, Goff has shown to be worth the risk. Additionally, he has settled in with this team and is working with Holmes, the executive who has persisted in putting in a lot of effort and backing Goff.

The Lions, who started the season 0-10-1, have turned into one of the league’s hottest teams and are just 30 minutes away from winning their first Super Bowl.

After the season, Goff stated, “It’s not up to me.” I adore this location, and as time passes, we’ll see what transpires. But yes, I adore this location, Dan, my teammates, and all of the coaches. It’s not in my control. It is with my delegates to decide.

With a division title and a trip to the conference title game—their first in over 30 years—the Lions have accomplished unprecedented feats. Goff has led a passing attack that is among the top five in the NFL in back-to-back seasons. In 2023, his play will occasionally return to the elite level.

In the NFL, Goff’s passing totals were 4,575 yards (second), 30 touchdowns (fourth), and a career-high 67.3% of passes completed (fifth). Through the postseason, Pro Football Focus ranked Goff as the 10th best quarterback overall; when operating with a clean pocket, the veteran was ranked second.

Furthermore, the Lions believe that Goff is the quarterback who can win them a Super Bowl. With a potent one-two punch in the backfield, two young All-Pro pass catchers, a high ceiling burner, and one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, they have assembled a roster that plays to his strengths.

When the head coach was questioned about whether the Lions could win it all with the 29-year-old at quarterback, Dan Campbell began the combine by praising Goff.
“Look, I understand that since it hasn’t happened yet—people are just stating that—but I’m not sure why. For example, I thought he played a good game for us in the NFC Championship game,” Campbell remarked. “He made it possible for us to win that. Since he’s been here, I feel like, man, I’ve watched a quarterback who has grown every year and gotten better and better and better. I would even say that he has improved each year under pressure and really just stepped up to the plate.

He feels more at ease and confident all the time. I’ve said it before, but in my opinion, Jared Goff is a successful quarterback. With that guy, you can win in this league. For many guys, you can’t say that. You could argue that he has matured more than many of the players we have had, but I’m still happy he’s here and that he’s ours. Perhaps people don’t notice it all the time, but he has, dude. It’s a credit to him that a guy who has been in this league for so long has kept improving.

Goff obviously wants to win it back in the city that throughout the game couldn’t stop chanting his name. The Lions also appear to be waiting on the same cue fo
