An inside look at the opening spring camp practice for Auburn football

Tuesday afternoon marked the official start of spring camp for Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers at the Woltosz Football Performance Centre. Tuesday’s practice, which mostly consisted of positional drills, was open to the media for 20 minutes.

For the majority of the viewing window, Auburn’s offence and defence rehearsed on different fields, just like they do during the regular season.

And while it’s difficult to draw much from 20 minutes of football practice, it did provide us with our first glimpse of Auburn’s new faces and an inside look at who was practicing where and with whom.

WR who is a true freshman Cam Coleman has a manly appearance among boys.
Cam Coleman, a 5-star wide receiver who signed with Auburn, is difficult to miss, people.

Coleman, who is listed as 6-foot-3 and 188 pounds, looks to be a lot taller than most of the other receivers in the position group. His physical appearance also draws attention.

Coleman completed a few agility drills during his first practice as a college student before running routes for Auburn’s four quarterbacks.

Once more, it’s difficult to predict Coleman’s role for the fall, but at the absolute least, he appears to be physically and athletically prepared.

Four quarterbacks each get reps.
Four different players split reps at quarterback on Tuesday, as was to be expected.

The quarterback order looked to be fifth-year Payton Thorne, sophomore Holden Geriner, redshirt freshman Hank Brown, and then four-star freshman Walker White for the majority of the viewing window.

During the viewing period, the four arms first engaged in hand-off drills with Auburn’s stable of running backs before moving on to passing drills with the same running backs.

Auburn’s quarterbacks found their wide receivers in the back half of the viewing window.

After serving as the head coach’s special assistant in 2023, Kent Austin—who was recently promoted to quarterbacks coach—did spend some time mentoring White.

Edge rushers are worked with by Joe Phillips.
Josh Aldridge, who was Auburn’s linebackers coach the previous season, is now listed as the defensive edge coach. On Tuesday, he was in charge of the Tigers’ Jack linebackers and defensive ends.

And 4-star freshman Joe Phillips, who was listed as a linebacker, joined that group.

Four-star freshman Jamonta Waller, redshirt freshman Jack linebacker Brenton Williams, senior Jack linebacker Jalen McLeod, sophomore defensive lineman Keldric Faulk, four-star freshman defensive lineman Amaris Williams and four-star freshman defensive lineman TJ Lindsey joined Phillips in working with Auburn’s edge rushers.
