What was said by Bruce Pearl, the head coach of Auburn, prior to the Mississippi State game?

Tomorrow at Neville Arena, the No. 11 Auburn Tigers will play the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Before the game, what was said by Bruce Pearl, the head coach of Auburn?

Pearl began by discussing how important this game is for Jaylin Williams, an Auburn forward.

“Tomorrow’s game will be senior forward Jaylin Williams’ 135 career game,” Pearl stated. “With all due respect, I say that he will be breaking the school record that was previously held by the legendary Frankie Sullivan. When I first tried to get this thing going, Frankie was a great member of my staff and a great player here for several years.”

Pearl talked about how difficult this game could be.

“Mississippi State is the third-toughest team to come to Neville Arena this year with Alabama and Kentucky being the two toughest opponents we’ve had based on the NET rankings and Mississippi State is a NET 31, just one slot out of Quad 1,” Pearl stated. We will therefore have our work cut out for us. I would have predicted that we would defeat Mississippi State if you had told me we would travel there and manage to limit Tolu Smith to just nine points and eight rebounds.”

Pearl provided a health update for Williams.

Jaylin was in good spirits. We wouldn’t have played him if he wasn’t 100 percent,” Pearl remarked. “Perhaps played five more minutes than we anticipated. He had experience in a challenging setting and handled it well; he recovered well yesterday and had no problems.”

The cutoff time is 3 p.m. CT. The Auburn Athletics app allows you to stream the Auburn Sports Network broadcast anywhere at any time, while the SEC Network broadcast is available for viewing.

According to 247 Sports, coach Dell McGee is anticipated to appoint former Texas A&M assistant Dameyune Craig as Georgia State’s offensive assistant coach.

A get-together of former Auburn teammates is planned.
Craig had served as Texas A&M’s receivers coach from 2018 to 2023 under former head coach Jimbo Fisher. Fisher was Craig’s position coach at Auburn (1994–1997), where he was a standout quarterback. Additionally, Craig served as Fisher’s assistant coach at LSU (2004) and Florida State (2010–12, 2017).

He had prior SEC experience at Auburn, where he coached the wideouts and served as co-offensive coordinator.

McGee, on the other hand, attended Auburn from 1992 to 1995 and earned four letters.

McGee, a former assistant coach at Georgia, was signed to a five-year contract by Georgia State last week.

After serving as Georgia’s assistant coach for the previous eight seasons, McGee, 50, was the Bulldogs’ coordinator of their run game and coach of their running backs. He now plays for the Panthers.

Shawn Elliott, who decided earlier this month to return to South Carolina as the run game coordinator and tight ends coach, is replaced by McGee.
Georgia State recently finished with a 7-6 record, which included an Idaho Potato Bowl victory over Utah State.
