Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story Might Have Experiencing Even Worse Shoulder Damage

On Tuesday, Alex Cora, the manager of the Boston Red Sox, stated that surgery remains an option because of concerns regarding Trevor Story’s shoulder’s bone structure.

As the Boston Red Sox prepared for their eagerly awaited home opener on Tuesday, manager Alex Cora broke some bad news to the supporters.

Trevor Story, a shortstop, will probably miss the remainder of the 2024 campaign.

Story suffered an injury during the Los Angeles Angels game on Friday night. The defensive star attempted a diving stop but collided with his left shoulder instead.

Story’s shoulder dislocated, according to an MRI, and the Red Sox put him on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. Later that day, when Story spoke with reporters, he hinted that he might end up missing the remainder of 2024.

Cora gave that scenario more weight on Tuesday morning when she informed reporters that Story’s shoulder’s bone structure is now causing more concern than just a simple dislocation. Story is scheduled to see a specialist in Los Angeles on Friday for a second opinion.

ACHIEVEMENT, 1:20 PM ET: Reporters were informed by Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow on Tuesday afternoon that Story would need surgery to fix a fractured glenloid. With a six-month recovery period anticipated, Story will be out for the remainder of the season.

Cora stated that the Red Sox intend to use platoons at both shortstop and second base in the absence of Story. Enmanuel Valdez at second and David Hamilton at short will be spelled by Romy Gonzalez.

In addition, Boston is currently without middle infielder Vaughn Grissom, a 23-year-old former top prospect acquired in December in exchange for Chris Sale from the Atlanta Braves. Since Dustin Pedroia’s injury in 2017, Grissom has been the Red Sox’s starting second baseman. However, upon his return to the major leagues, Grissom will now be expected to play some short innings.

Regarding the home opener against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday afternoon at Fenway Park, Hamilton will bat ninth and start at short, while Valdez will bat second.
