Sharks star expected to announce retirement after a frustrating string of injuries

At a quick press conference, Cronulla Craig Fitzgibbon  co-captain Finucane is anticipated to declare his retirement from the NRL.

The Sharks have announced that coach Craig Fitzgibbon and the 32-year-old forward will address the media at 12 p.m. on Tuesday (AEST).

The Sharks have a contract with the dual-premiership winner through the end of 2025, but injuries have recently plagued him.

Due to a torn bicep that prevented him from finishing the 2023 season and an eye socket fracture earlier in the season, he has only played in three games thus far.

Finucane has resumed full contact training, but he was left off of the Sharks’ seven-round roster to play North Queensland.

With the Sharks celebrating his 250th appearance in their round-two victory over Canterbury in March, he has participated in 251 first-grade games.

Finucane has represented Canterbury and Melbourne, winning premierships in 2017 and 2020, in addition to playing five State of Origin games for NSW.
