Dylan Wittke, a quarterback transfer from Virginia Tech, has committed to Minnesota Football.

Since January, when former Fresno State transfer Logan Fife switched his commitment from the Gophers to Montana, where he would have a better opportunity to start, Minnesota Gopher Football has been searching for a new scholarship transfer quarterback. Prioritizing the addition of another scholarship quarterback before the fall season began was necessary because they entered the spring with just two: true freshman Drake Lindsey and senior Max Brosmer. Dylan Wittke, a former quarterback for Virginia Tech, is the man Minnesota has found.

Wittke has four years to play at Minnesota after being a 2023 high school recruit and redshirting this past season. Wittke should immediately go up against Drake Lindsey for the #2 spot this autumn, in my opinion. Then, when Max Brosmer becomes ineligible the following spring, he will face competition for the starting position from Lindsey, Jackson Kollock, who will be a true freshman, and walk-on Max Shikenjanski.

Wittke was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and the 247Sports Composite, with 247Sports ranking him as the 85th best quarterback in the class. During the first part of his career, Wittke was a top backup to another P5 quarterback; however, his recruitment didn’t start to take shape until the spring before his senior year. After watching Wittke throw during the spring evaluation period with Tyler Bowen and former quarterback coach Brad Glen, Virginia Tech became involved in Wittke’s recruitment in April.

Dylan Wittke, a native of Buford, was a four-year letterman at one of Georgia’s top high school football programs. During his high school career, he won three state titles. Wittke finished his senior year with 943 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 60.4% of his passes (67/111). This information is based on Max Preps. Wittke had the best testing rating at the 2021 Elite 11 stop in Orlando, according to 247Sports. In the camp, he ran a 4.55-second 40-yard dash, had a 37-inch vertical leap, and completed a 4.31-second short shuttle.
