CBS Chicago — When word spread on Saturday that quarterback Justin Fields had been traded by the Bears to the Pittsburgh Steelers, fans became irate, depressed, and sad.

However, the supporters persisted in believing that the trade would be a positive step.

An hour after the trade was announced on Saturday night, Fields’ face was still flashed across Soldier Field during a player montage.

Fields is headed to the Steelers in exchange for a sixth-round 2025 draft pick, following three seasons with the Bears.

In order to select Fields from Ohio State University, the Bears traded up from No. 20 to No. 11 in 2021.

For fans like Kevin Ashmore and his son who were visiting from Ohio, it was an abrupt and quick change.
Outside Soldier Field, Ashmore said, “I just told [my son] this morning that this is where Justin Fields plays, and then later on today, we just found out he just got traded.” “Just told him the news.”

“I feel depressed because, well, Justin Fields and C.G. Stroud are probably my favorite two quarterbacks,” said Ashmore’s son. I’m furious.

Some fans, such as 8-year-old Cassius Waife, accepted it with grace.

“I’ll adjust,” Cassius remarked.
With his elder sister Nia Dawkins, who is upbeat about the team’s prospects, Cassius was outside Soldier Field.

“It’s a little depressing, but hopefully better in the next one,” Dawkins remarked.

Fields’ departure has made room for USC quarterback Caleb Williams, whom the Bears will almost certainly select with the first pick overall this spring.

Cassius is a fan of Justin Fields, but he also likes another player, even though they passed away before Cassius was born.

Walter Payton “stated Cassius.

Pizano’s near Wintrust Arena has sports memorabilia featuring Payton and other Bears legends. Employees at the eatery, located at 2106 S. Indiana Ave., report that they see Bears supporters show up regardless of the changes.

“No, not really. Even if they win or lose, we still draw a good crowd here, right?” stated Eddie Mendoza, general manager of Pizano’s South Loop. “The team and ourselves continue to receive great support from our wonderful fans.”

With over 500,000 searches since the announcement on Saturday afternoon, the term “Justin Fields” is the most popular search on Google for the day, indicating the high level of interest in the trade.

Compared to the second-highest search term, “UNC basketball,” that is five times more.
