Green Bay Packers: Will Green Bay’s Future Be Affected or Helped by the 2024 NFL Draft?

Now that the 2024 NFL Draft has concluded, everyone is speculating about whether or not each team’s draft class was successful. While some teams played in a predictable manner, others engaged in transactions that were simply puzzling. After an unexpectedly successful season, the Green Bay Packers saw this as an opportunity to add even more building blocks to their talented team, which will help them establish themselves as a legitimate NFC contender in the upcoming season.

Though naturally, opinions on the team’s new additions are already being voiced, we will have to wait and see how each of the Packers’ draft selections turns out. For instance, the response to Green Bay selecting offensive lineman Jordan Morgan in the first round was largely favorable, despite the fact that many were shocked that the Packers did not select a “splashier” pick. Many believed that quarterback Jordan Love’s protection was being strengthened with this selection.

After 11 seasons with the Packers, Bakhtiari departed the team this past season. His endorsement of Jordan Morgan on draft night will therefore undoubtedly be well-received by the Packers fanbase.

As previously mentioned, the Packers did not make any particularly noteworthy draft selections. However, that does not in any way imply that their draft class was a failure. Different teams have different requirements, and division rivals like Minnesota and Chicago had to make significant investments to restructure their rosters. For this reason, they selected J.J. McCarthy and Caleb Willims, two well-known college quarterbacks, respectively.

It’s not always the case that going “big” is best for your team and your supporters, though. The selection of Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. by the Atlanta Falcons was perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening. It was perplexing for the players, as well as fans and detractors, to select Penix Jr. in the draft when Kirk Cousins, the veteran quarterback, had already committed to Atlanta.

The purpose of a draft is to try and fill the hole on your team with young, promising players, not to confuse your fan base but to reassure them. And the Packers made a specific effort to accomplish that this season. The Packers strengthened their defense by selecting multiple linebackers and safeties in the 2023 draft, following defensive shortcomings that resulted in Joe Barry’s dismissal as defensive coordinator.

Now that the draft is over, the Green Bay Packers should be viewed as clear winners. Actually, it appears that the 2024 NFL Draft was strong for each of the NFC North’s four teams. They all made no foolish choices or self-destructive errors, and they were all able to take care of their most important needs and issues. It will now be up to each of these teams to develop these players and create a cohesive team environment.
