Is Tyler Boyd the Next Signing for the Titans?

Reasons in favor of and against signings Tennessee Titan Boyd Tyler

Nashville, Tennessee Tyler Boyd, a free agent wide receiver, recently paid the Tennessee Titans a visit. Should the rookie Titans coach look into other options or get back together with Boyd in Music City?

Here are some highlights from Boyd’s eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before we get into that question.

Unless Boyd starts a bidding war and becomes too expensive for Titans general manager Ran Carthon to sign and use to fill other needs, there isn’t much argument against signing him.

It is also pertinent to note that Boyd will turn 30 at the end of the season, making him 29 years old. The fact that he produced less last season is another cause for concern. While there’s no denying that star quarterback Joe Burrow’s injury kept him out of action for a while, is it really wise for the Titans to sign an older receiver at a time when they’re trying to rebuild under a new coaching staff?

Despite posting career-lows in a number of categories, Boyd is a capable slot receiver who is familiar with Callahan’s scheme. As head coach, Callahan will call his own plays, so it’s critical that players are aware of the coach’s preferences.

From 2019 to 23, Callahan served as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator, collaborating closely with Boyd. Callahan is the one who knows what Boyd still has in the tank.

Boyd was a member of the Bengals last season, catching 67 passes for 667 yards and two touchdowns. When paired with DeAndre Hopkins and Calvin Ridley, the Titans may have a potent starting wide receiver group.
Let’s face it, finding out if Will Levis can be a reliable starting quarterback will be the Titans’ main focus for the 2024 campaign. The Titans should take advantage of any chance to upgrade the wide receiver room at a fair price.
