The Miami Marlins have terminated Kim Ng’s historic tenure as general manager.

The Marlins announced on Monday morning that Ng, the first female general manager in the major professional North American sports leagues, had declined her 2024 mutual option and had parted ways with the team.

According to them, the Marlins exercised their half of the mutual option.

Joel Sherman of The Post revealed that Ng felt ownership would reject her on both counts and that she wanted to grow her baseball operations staff without having a president appointed above her.

Bruce Sherman and I talked about his plan to reorganize the Baseball Operations division last week. We were not entirely in agreement on what that should look like in our conversations, so I thought it would be best to step away, Ng told Tyler Kepner of The Athletic.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Marlins family and its supporters for their hospitality during my stay in South Florida. The organization made great strides this year, and I will miss working with [manager] Skip [Shumaker] and his coaches, along with all of the hardworking employees in front office and baseball operations. They are a really talented group, and I hope the future holds nothing but the best for them.
