The Suffolk team, who had only one point separated them from Championship table leaders Leicester City after their 2-0 victory over relegated Huddersfield on Saturday, secured their place in the English top flight.
After a 22-year absence from the top division, Kieran McKenna’s team is just the 12th in English football history to record back-to-back promotions from the third tier to the first division.
Growing up in the nearby town of Framlingham, Sheeran has always been a supporter of the club from his youth. On Saturday, the superstar celebrated the club’s promotion in Miami, where he is currently on tour.
After that, the singer-songwriter took a plane to New York for Monday night’s Met Gala, where the celebrity was Stella McCartney’s guest.
But Sheeran was able to return to England to celebrate with the players in person after posing on the red carpet at the biggest night in fashion.
Sheeran posted a video to Instagram with the caption, “Took the Ipswich Town lads out for a promotion party tonight,” and then he playful mentioned midfielder Massimo Luongo and defender Luke Woolfenden.

Before leading the group in a chant honoring “Super Kieran McKenna,” Sheeran led the players in singing along to his 2017 hit song Shape of You.
Later, as the celebrations went on, forward Conor Chaplin insisted that Sheeran “give him the f****** mic,” giving away a glimpse of the joyous chaos that was to follow.
Additionally, Chaplin was seen in a video singing Sheeran’s debut single, “A Team,” while the 33-year-old played guitar in the background. Later, the group joined in on the song.
Since the singer agreed to sponsor the team’s jersey for the 2020–21 season, back in League One, Sheeran’s assistance has been crucial to the team.
The singer is still supporting the club’s men’s and women’s teams’ uniforms.
While Sheeran was waiting to FaceTime with the fan on the other side of the pond, Ipswich’s dressing room celebrations included a sing-along to his 2017 song Perfect.
