Caleb Lohner logs into the transfer portal; Mark Pope may use him as a depth option at Kentucky

After spending two seasons in Waco under Scott Drew and the new associate head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, Alvin Brooks III, Caleb Lohner, the backup big man for the Baylor Bears, has accessed the transfer portal.

Following the 2021–22 campaign, Lohner played two seasons at BYU for then head coach Mark Pope before transferring to Bay

Now that Pope and Brooks are on the same staff in Lexington, Lohner has the potential to be a valuable addition to the big man depth.

Three big men have committed to Kentucky so far for the 2024–25 campaign: Andrew Carr (F), Amari Williams (C), and Brandon Garrison (C). Lohner plays a different style than Carr, so he would presumably be Carr’s backup at position four.

During his BYU career, Lohner averaged 6.4 rebounds and 7 points per game while starting. In his role as Baylor’s main backup, his output barely decreased. In the Big 12 semifinals, he scored twelve points against Iowa State. In 2023, he also scored 13 points against UCSB in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

Last season, he scored a season-high 12 points.
