Former Belgium international, who played for Coventry in the Premier League, was called a “legend” by one of his old teams
The 45-year-old former striker for Wolves and Coventry, Cedric Roussel, has received tributes.
The former Belgium international played in the Premier League with Robbie Keane before joining the Sky Blues from Gent in 1999.
Following injury setbacks, Roussel joined Wolves in 2001 and stayed there for eighteen months before loaning out to his native club, Mons, in Belgium.
Before returning to Mons later in his career, Roussel—who was awarded three caps by his country—also held stints at Standard Liege, Genk, and Rubin Kazan in Russia.
Roussel was praised by the Mons as “our legend and ambassador,” and they expressed their “devastation” at hearing of his passing.
Roussel’s passing “deeply saddened” Coventry City, who added in a statement that “Cedric played 43 games for the Sky Blues from 1999-2001, scoring 11 goals.”
“Our condolences are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”
In a statement, Wolves said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Cedric Roussel’s family and friends. Our former player, who was only 45 years old, went away.”
Mons intend to honor Roussel, who is rumored to have experienced a heart arrest, at their upcoming game.
