WBRC AUBURN, AL – terrible news. On Wednesday, the university of Auburn announced the passing of Mike Kolen, a legendary linebacker for Auburn.

Auburn Icon. winner of two Super Bowls.

“He was a better man than he was a great football player.”

Farewell, Captain Crunch

Between 1967 and 1969, Kolen started 25 games for the Tigers, and in 16 of those contests, he led the team in tackles. As a junior and senior, he was named an All-SEC selection.

The Miami Dolphins chose Kolen with the 12th overall pick in the 1970 draft. Kolen was a member of the Dolphins for eight seasons, winning two Super Bowls in a row with the team in 1972 and 1973.

In 1985, Kolen—a Hoover native and alum of Berry High School—was admitted to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. His age was seventy-six.
