Carlos Sainz and the Brackley-based team have temporarily stopped negotiating, despite Sainz being a strong candidate for the open seat at Mercedes.

Sainz is moving too quickly to secure a contract because Mercedes wants to see what Max Verstappen can do and what Kimi Antonelli can do in Formula 2. The young Italian driver can obtain a super licence in August without the need for a dispensation.

According to the information provided by PlanetF1.com, Sainz has been eliminated from consideration for a seat for the time being, but should his other options not materialize, a seat may still become available.

At Imola, the team, now led by principal Mike Krack, unveiled a series of improvements for the Aston Martin AMR24. Although this seemed to be a step in the right direction, the team only managed two points thanks to Lance Stroll.

Krack, however, countered that progress had been made and dismissed any ideas that Aston Martin would have to go back to the AMR24 specification.

According to Krack, “the upgrades are definitely a step forward,” as he told reporters, including Thomas Maher of PlanetF1.com.

“You don’t have to brush them off.”

Red Bull’s future is updated by Yuki Tsunoda
Yuki Tsunoda, one of the drivers without a contract through 2025, has a good chance of getting an extension with Red Bull; it’s unclear, though, if he’ll get a promotion to Red Bull or stay with his current RB team.Sainz's ire at strategy Ferrari was 'convinced' was right - The Race

The driver supported by Honda may also be considered for a position at Aston Martin should the Japanese automaker decide to rejoin the sport in 2026 as the team’s engine supplier.

In an interview with Channel 4, Tsunoda talked about his allegiance to Red Bull and acknowledged the role Honda has played in his professional career thus far.

“To be honest, RB is doing incredibly well so far, so obviously, there aren’t many strong feelings that I would like to express,” Tsunoda remarked.
