From Bulldogs to Rams to Roadrunners, the Texas Longhorns football schedule will look a little different in 2024 than it has in recent years.

As the Horns get ready to take on the monster of the SEC, Texas will host a wide array of teams at the historic Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium.

However, a few of the Longhorns’ home games are a little more prominent than others.

While Colorado State, UTSA, and Louisiana Monroe are all visiting Austin once again, and Texas should undoubtedly defeat those three teams, the team’s SEC opponents coming to town are slightly more important to Texas’ standing in 2024.

So, as the Longhorns prepare for a new pool of visitors, which three home games are critical wins for Texas in 2024?

The Georgia Bulldogs stood atop the SEC for almost the entire 2023-24 season and are projected to be Texas’ biggest competition for the No. 1 spot in the conference this season.

When the Longhorns host the Bulldogs, Texas has to take down Georgia if it wants to be able to lay claim to the SEC.

The winner of this game will most likely be the No. 1 team in the conference if not the No. 1 team in the nation.

The Florida Gators have never been able to take down the Texas Longhorns. The two teams have faced each other three times and the Horns have a 2-0-1 record against UF.Georgia Bulldogs who transferred during the 2023 offseason

The last time the Longhorns matched up with the Gators, Texas walked away with a shutout 26-0 victory in 1940.

In fact, Florida has only scored 7 total points in the three games against the Longhorns. As the Gators visit Austin in 2024, the Horns need to secure a victory in order to avoid an embarrassment.

The Wildcats have had some surprisingly successful seasons over the last few years but they haven’t played against Texas since 1951, in the only-ever matchup between the two programs.

In the game between Kentucky and Texas, the Longhorns held the Wildcats to just 6 points while only scoring 7 points of their own.

While fans can hope for a higher-scoring game in the rematch nearly 75 years since the last time the teams faced off, Texas fans need to bank on their team walking away victorious once again against the Wildcats.
