A couple months ago, Jayden-Jamal Hanne — called JJ by most of his friends — received a call from a number he didn’t know.
That happens a lot these days as new coaches learn about Hanne’s game. But Georgia defensive line coach was among those new names, faces, and numbers two months ago when he first called. Scott called with a clear message: He’d heard about Hanne’s background and seen his film and wanted to continue the conversation about possibly getting more heavily recruited by Georgia.
Hanne just needed to come to Athens to workout with Scott.
“Coach Scott called me a couple months ago, like one or two months ago. He called me and told me that he liked my film and my story. He really wanted me to come to camp to earn an offer,” Hanne told Dawgs247.
That opportunity came on Thursday when Hanne arrived at Georgia for the first camp of the summer.
“Since I was on a tour and this was a spot, I knew it was a great opportunity for me to compete and I got out and competed,” he said.
Hanne was one of the top performers from the camp. He’s bulked up his frame over the last few months, and he’s started to pick up more offers as teams have started to take notice. It didn’t take long for Scott to let Hanne know he had more than earned his offer from Georgia.
“He told me that he liked how I grinded today. I gave effort everywhere. I gave it my all. He said that’s what stood out to him, and the combination with my film, that’s what made him give me the offer,” Hanne said.
Hanne mentioned earlier that when Scott first called he told him he “liked his story.” He certainly has an interesting background. The Santa Margarita (Calif.) defensinve lineman wasn’t there initially. His dad is originally from Nigeria, but moved to Germany where he met Hanne’s mother, a native German. Hanne was born in Berlin and lived in Germany for most of his life. He spent a lot of time playing football in Berlin, camping for international organizations geared toward identifying non-American talent.
In 2022, midway through the season, he moved to Santa Margarita to begin his US-based football career. His stock has skyrocketed from there.
Hanne is listed at 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds. He would most likely to be featured at 3-technique or 4i-technique in Georgia’s defensive scheme, but other SEC programs like Alabama and Texas A&M have jumped on board too. Right now, he ranks as the nation’s No. 121 defensive lineman, but a camp evaluation offer by Georgia should be taken pretty seriously.
Hanne told Dawgs247 he will return for his Georgia official visit on June 21-23.
