Ken Bruce has opened up about his decision to leave BBC Radio 2 last year.

The radio legend, 73, appeared on Friday’s Good Morning Britain to talk about PopMaster TV, where chat got onto him leaving BBC Radio 2 in 2023.

Ken, who recently celebrated one year on Greatest Hits, was asked by host Adil Ray whether it was the “hardest decision” of his career to leave BBC Radio 2. To which Ken admitted: “Well, I don’t think so… because anything, you do it for a long time, there comes a point where you think this is the point that I need to leave.Ken Bruce has opened up about his decision to leave BBC Radio 2 last year (

“I’d done almost everything I wanted to do at Radio 2, I thought it’s time to leave and just try something else while you still can, while you’re still relatively young enough to do it so I thought: ‘If I don’t do it now, I never will, let’s try something else!'”

It comes as Ken marked the first anniversary of his Greatest Hits radio show back in March. The presenter raised a glass with friends to a fantastic first 12 months with the station announcing they’ve seen a growth of more than 75% year-on-year. Greatest Hits Radio now has 6.5 million weekly listeners for all of its shows, compared to 3.7 million the year before and Ken has played a huge part.

His colleagues and friends threw him a little bash with Vanessa Feltz and Chaser Shaun Wallace joining the fun and radio presenter Andy Crane even wearing a telling ‘Choose Ken’ T-shirt. It appears many have followed instructions after he helped drive up listener numbers to record levels.
