Auburn running back Brian Battie was admitted to the hospital following a shooting injury.
According to an Auburn school spokesperson, running back Brian Battie was hurt in a shooting early on Saturday morning, as Rivals’ Brian Stultz reported.
The spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather information.”
At the scene of the shooting, Tommie L. Battie IV, the brother of Battie, was pronounced deceased, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (h/t ABC 7).
Sarasota, Florida, is Battie’s hometown. The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday and sent four victims—including Battie—to the hospital.
The junior Battie transferred from South Florida to Auburn prior to the 2023 season. His primary position was kick returner, as he finished fifth in the SEC last year with an average of 645 yards on 29 attempts. On 51 carries, he added 227 rushing yards and a touchdown.
In 2022, he had his best year as a backfield player with South Florida, accumulating 1,186 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
Battie had three touchdown kick returns in 2021 out of 650 yards in kick return yardage. He was named an All-American in 2021 for his superb performance as a return man.
