Pies beat the “Miracle on Grass” to become the greatest comebacks in history.

Collingwood tears apart North Melbourne hearts to secure a spot on the list of the century’s greatest comeback victories. The Pies’ incredible Sunday comeback victory over North Melbourne will live on in the annals of history.

The Pies’ victory at Marvel Stadium, which came after the Bombers had trailed by 69 points in the second quarter, is now tied for the seventh-largest comeback victory in VFL/AFL history, with Essendon’s historic victory over, you guessed it, North Melbourne in 2001 at the top of the list.

After Carlton’s incredible 46-point comeback victory against Brisbane in the Opening Round, it is also the biggest comeback win of 2024 and the equal third biggest comeback win of this century.

This century, St Kilda’s incredible win over the Western Bulldogs in 2015, which saw the Saints trail by 55 points early in the third quarter before roaring back with seven goals in a row, ranks fifth behind Brisbane’s 2013 “Miracle on Grass,” which was capped off by Ash McGrath’s famous winner.
Third on the list is a tie between Collingwood’s heroics on Sunday and West Coast’s 2006 road victory over Geelong, in which Dean Cox, Daniel Kerr, and Ben Cousins rallied the team from 54 points down with 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Lions have surprisingly emerged victorious from three of the ten biggest comeback victories since 2000; however, their loss to Carlton in March marked the first time they had experienced bitter defeat after leading by such a large margin.
